The Search for the Green M&M's

This post is dedicated to my former internship boss, Alfie, who is celebrating his birthday today! Happy birthday!


Two years ago, my partner intern, Paolo, and I wanted to surprise Alfie on his birthday. We decided to meet up in school and brainstorm possible gift ideas. We then remembered one of his shirts, the green M&M's shirt. He really likes the color green despite being an Atenean. With this inspiration, we decided to give Alfie a jar filled with green M&M's!

I kept looking for candy stalls that sell M&M's but for some reason, they didn't carry M&M's during those times. We resorted to buying packs of M&M's and segregating the green ones. Paolo and I decided to meet up again during the week and combine the green M&M's we've collected throughout the week. 

We bought lots and lots of packs to fill up that jar. Turns out that M&M's packs carry the brown color the most. Boo! We need green ones. Also, the small peanut variant pack only carries 1-3 green M&M's. The milk chocolate and the mini variant carries the most number of green M&M's as compared to other variants.  

We used spoons in segregating! Sanitary measures of course :)

Finally after a week of searching for green M&M's and scouring groceries for packs of M&M's, we came up with a pretty good jar filled with those specific M&M's. It's a simple gift but made with much love. 

It was really a fun gift because we got to eat the other M&M's! Yaaay happy sweet tooth! So right after my class, I went to the office and surprised Alfie. Happy birthday Alfie!!!

Too bad Paolo couldn't make it to the office too but it's okay. :) We both worked hard on the gift anyway! Plus it was great seeing our other officemates who welcomed us warmly when we were interns there. Awww. :) Thanks guys! Thanks Alfie!

Sorry Alfie we don't have a surprise anymore for this year but I hope you still have a great birthday! :) I'm sure your other interns or officemates will come up with something. Hahaha. Happy happy birthday Alfie! Thanks for being a great boss, mentor and friend to us. :)
