Short on cash and avoiding the mall traffic this weekend?
Why not get busy in the kitchen for your Christmas gifts instead? :)
I've gathered 5 How-to videos for you to choose from for your food gifts this Christmas. I've also rated them according to difficulty and length of preparation time to help you out. They're all fun to do so I'm sure you'll have a blast in the kitchen this weekend. :)
11. Holiday Chocolate Lollipops (Level of Difficulty: 1/5; Preparation Time: 30 mins)
These are fun Christmas gifts which I usually receive every year. The only difficult part of making these chocolates is looking for Christmas-themed molds. Try looking at your local Baker's Depot or baking shop for chocolate molds that you might like. :) Other than that, even kids can make these chocolate lollipops! They're inexpensive and they're so easy to make for a lot of people.
Items you will need:
Melted Chocolate
Mixer Bowl
Chocolate Molds
Piping Bag
Refrigerator
Lollipop Sticks
12. Chocolate Truffles (Level of Difficulty: 2/5; Preparation Time: 3 Hours)
Thinking of buying expensive chocolates for your friends this Christmas? Why not make your own Chocolate Truffles instead? They're not as difficult as you think and they taste just as delicious as those in the market. :) Plus they don't require any baking!
*There are easier recipes for Chocolate Truffles but this recipe is more flavorful.
Items you will need:
2 packs of Semi sweet Chocolate Chips
2 packs of Cream Cheese
1 pack of Oreo Cookies
Mixer Bowl
Food Processor
Refrigerator
Double Boiler
Sprinkles
13. Holiday Sugar Cookies (Level of Difficulty: 2/5; Preparation Time: 3 Hours)
Did you grow up eating sugar cookies for Christmas like I did? Why not make your own sugar cookies for gift giving? They're easy to make just as long as you have an oven for baking, a mixer, a flat baking pan and holiday themed cookie cutters!
If you're also feeling more artsy, you can make these cookies fancier with food coloring gel, icing, candies or fondant: click here for more info :)
Items you will need:
Oven
1 Cup of Softened Butter + Butter for greasing the pan
1 and a half cup of Confectioners Sugar
2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Extract
1/2 Teaspoon of Almond Extract
1 Egg
3 cups of all purpose flour + Flour for dusting
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Colored Sugar
Rolling pin
Baking Cookie Sheets
Wire Racks
Holiday Cookie Cutters
2 Mixer Bowls
14. Personalized Fortune Cookies (Level of Difficulty: 3/5; Preparation Time: 3 Hours)
Are you looking for a food gift that will make your friends feel extra special? Then why not make your own fortune cookies with personalized sweet messages inside? They're easy to make once you've mastered them but it takes a lot of patience and some really thick fingers tips to do so!
Once you get the hang of it, you can shorten preparation time. :) From my experience, it's best to work with two cookies at a time since you need to fold them before they cool down.
Items you will need:
Cut out messages
2 tablespoons of butter
1 Egg White
1 teaspoon of Vanilla
Pinch of Salt
1/4 cup All Purpose Flour
1/4 cup Confectioners Sugar
Spoon
Baking Cookie Sheets
Saucepan
Drinking Glass or Bowl
Wire Rack
Oven
15. Gingerbread House (Level of Difficulty: 4/5; Preparation Time: 3 days)
This is a popular Christmas treat in America and it is a definite attention grabber since it's so uncommon here. So if you have time and you want to impress your friends, then a Gingerbread House will do the job. :)
Items you will need:
Gingerbread Cookie Dough (Here's a recipe how: click me)
Plastic wrap
Poster board or cardboard
Wax Paper
Rolling Pin
Flour for dusting
Shortening
2 Cookie Sheets
Foam Core Base (found at craft stores)
Royal Icing
Cloth
Pastry Bag
Candy
Clean Canned Goods
---
There you go, hope you have fun making these Christmas treats! Buying Christmas food gifts doesn't always have to be expensive and stressful, just as long as you know how to work your way around the kitchen. :)
Happy weekend!
